My filming journey began at StoneX stadium for ‘The Duel’ aka the premiership game between Saracens and harlequins. There would be multiple red roses playing including Marlie Packer.
I arrived with all of my equipment, went through security and then picked up my media pass. After this I went to the media room. It’s one of the busiest matches of the season so it was pretty packed. I was a little overwhelmed as I hadn’t done anything like this before, but it was such an incredible experience to have.
I set up my filming equipment on the north side of the pitch and got some B-roll / general clips 0of the stadium and warmups. I was using an AC-90 kit as well as my own Nikon D3100 to take some shots too.
Whilst I was setting up I did an interview with Saracens team doctor, Laura Czech. I did this with a flashmic. She gave me lots of vital information about looking after both the Saracens girls and the red roses. She explained that the women’s premiership teams have around 8 hours a week with their medical teams whereas the men’s teams get around 8 hours a day! She also told me that until contracts came into both international rugby and premiership rugby there were very little doctors / medical staff at all.
I stayed their getting further clips of the game for the first half. It was an extremely windy day so I couldn’t stay recording for long as the tripod kept nearly blowing over.
For the second half I sat in the media seats watching the game and taking more still on my Nikon camera. I made sure to try and get shots of the Red Roses players for my article.
The day was sort of a practise day for the Sunday after where I would be interviewing players. I got to understand how the day works for the media, where everything was and get some clips to set me up well for later.
